Today November 19th we celebrate Garifuna Settlement day. This day was founded as early as 1941 by Thomas Vincent Ramos and the first Garinagu settlers arrived the village of Hopkins in 1845.  After 166 years, the people of Hopkins still live the Garifuna culture and tradition to the fullest.

Garifuna Settlement day  is celebrated throughout Belize and  re-tells the story of hardship, freedom and a new beginning for the first Garinagu settlers in Belize. The Garifuna Culture adds a very unique blend of African & Caribbean flavors to our beautiful country.  Today we thank them for everything from the flavors and delicious food dishes to the contagious fast beat drumming which is a very addictive rhythm.
