Hamanasi Migratory and Native Bird Population

Hamanasi has kept and embraced its reputation as an eco-friendly resort in Belize’s Tourism Industry, and in its assurance in sustaining a unique image by preserving the environment and its biodiversity, the company’s rainforest guides have been conducting a migratory and native bird population study for a period of six (6) months. In the facilitation of the study, an onsite birding has been scheduled, and is ongoing for at least once every week, by three (3) inland guides who are Pedro, Lorenzo and Golden. The guides been have conducting the studies around the property from March 21, 2012 to April 4, 2012, and they have recorded 32 species of birds. Most of the bird species were sighted in more than two (2) occasions, in which the sighting frequency was 2.19. Our guests, especially those who are bird lovers, are welcomed to participate in the studies along with our gregarious and enthusiastic inland guides.

Hamanasi Guides work with Students for the Love of Birding!

Hamanasi guides, Golden and Pedro, work with students from the local school to show them another side of nature! The guides took the students birding in the Hopkins and Sittee River areas and to Red Bank Village to see the Scarlet Macaws. These students have volunteered for the workstudy with the guides to learn more about birds in the surrounding area and their habitats.

Hamanasi guides, “Golden” Miranda and Pedro Ical, recently participated in Part I of a new Birding Ecology course offered in Belize! TIDE Tours is presenting a Certificate Program in Bird Ecology Mass Audubon, the first ever course of its kind to be held in Southern Belize. Part I was held on November 14-16, a 3-day intensive session covering various aspects of: Anatomy and Physiology, Orientation and Systematics, Evolution and Speciation, Flight and Migration, and Bird Conservation. Part II will be a 3-day session to be held on the 24th -26th of May 2010, and will include aspects of: Breeding Biology, Feeding Ecology, and Leadership Skills. The program also included early morning bird walks and a self-study assignment to be completed between the two formal sessions.

The purpose of the program is to enhance the ornithology (study of birds) knowledge base of naturalist guides, teachers, and others with a strong interest in the birds of Belize. Golden and Pedro are very excited to expand their already extensive knowledge about the local and regional birds. Hamanasi has an early-morning Birding Tour every Thursday!

Tropical Birding Site Reopens in Belize Vacation Paradise

This is great news to all tropical bird lovers, and to those who have yet to discover the beauty of tropical birding in Belize. These pictures were taken by one of our guests. On most tours, our amazing guides spot anywhere from 40-60 various species of tropical birds right in our backyard and surrounding areas. What a beautiful way to start another day in paradise…
