Hamanasi Guides work with Students for the Love of Birding!

Hamanasi guides, Golden and Pedro, work with students from the local school to show them another side of nature!  The guides took the students birding in the Hopkins and Sittee River areas and to Red Bank Village to see the Scarlet Macaws.  These students have volunteered for the workstudy with the guides to learn more about birds in the surrounding area and their habitats.

Birding in Belize!

Hamanasi guides, “Golden” Miranda and Pedro Ical, recently participated in Part I of a new Birding Ecology course offered in Belize! TIDE Tours is presenting a Certificate Program in Bird Ecology Mass Audubon, the first ever course of its kind to be held in Southern Belize. Part I was held on November 14-16, a 3-day intensive session covering various aspects of: Anatomy and Physiology, Orientation and Systematics, Evolution and Speciation, Flight and Migration, and Bird Conservation. Part II will be a 3-day session to be held on the 24th -26th of May 2010, and will include aspects of: Breeding Biology, Feeding Ecology, and Leadership Skills. The program also included early morning bird walks and a self-study assignment to be completed between the two formal sessions.

The purpose of the program is to enhance the ornithology (study of birds) knowledge base of naturalist guides, teachers, and others with a strong interest in the birds of Belize. Golden and Pedro are very excited to expand their already extensive knowledge about the local and regional birds. Hamanasi has an early-morning Birding Tour every Thursday!

Family Fun and Belize Adventure at Hamanasi Resort!

“I have to say that I have visited and dived in many places in the world – Kenya, Egypt, Maldives, Australia. Hawaii, the Persian Gulf and the Caribbean. I have to say truly that I loved Belize more than anywhere and especially Hamanasi.  Hamanasi is very similar to the world famous resort of Heron Island on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.  But the accommodation is better and you can do more than just dive.  You also have Hopkins Village life and the fabulous inland trips to make as well.  On top of that the friendliness, humour and care provided by your staff is incredible. You cannot help but love them all especially Pauline, Stephanie, Mark and Norton.  They gave us such great times.  And the guides – Lorenzo, Pedro and Hartfield – enthusiastic, proud and informative.  I haven’t even got round to the diving.  Beautiful reefs and all the help you could need from the dive masters and guides.  On top of it all – I dived with whale sharks.
I just cannot thank you enough for such a great family holiday. We will be back.”
Love, Dr Kevin Jones, April 2009

You are most welcome Kevin!  We can’t wait to have you back!

Hamanasi Guest Lands the Elusive Permit!

Tom Evans, a recent Hamanasi guest, says,

“By the way, Lloyd is an excellent guide for this kind of fly fishing. I don’t use guides much, but have been fly fishing for going on 40yrs in the western US. And after reading a bit more about permit fishing and how hard it is, its even more obvious that Lloyd really knows his stuff. I also couldn’t believe how good he was at spotting fish. So if other seasoned fly fishers stay at your place, Lloyd is a great choice. “
Thanks for the photo, Tom!

Toucan Sightings on Tropical Birding Tour!

You never know just what you’ll see on Hamanasi’s early morning birding tours, and lately one of the most colorful birds in the jungle of Belize has been making a regular appearance! These pictures were taken by one of our guests. On most tours, our amazing guides spot anywhere from 40-60 various species of tropical birds right in our backyard and surrounding areas. What a beautiful way to start another day in paradise…

Vacation Fishing in Belize!

Janine and Michael Cook, return guests to Hamanasi, don’t even have to exaggerate their fish tale! They really did land a big one!!!  Fishing is a very popular activity in Belize.  Hamanasi can arrange spin fishing or fly fishing with experienced local fishing guides.

Congratulations Janine and Michael!
