“Bigger and brighter smiles”

Heidi and Chuck Pittman stayed with us at Hamanasi Resort on November 2011, and they took one full day out of their busy adventure schedule to do Dental Hygienic Presentation to all the children from the Holy Family Hopkins School.

Heidi is a Registered Dental Hygienist from beautiful Colorado. Chuck, her husband accompanied and assisted Heidi on her dental presentations, and had the children smiling and expressing positive examples on what they do to keep their teeth healthy and clean.  Each child was given a toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss as a motivation to continue to take care of their teeth.

Principal, teachers and smiling children were all very thankful for this generous gesture. We are all very appreciative and welcome to all our guest that want to participate in helping our community especially where the children are concern as they are our future.

“Happy animals, thanks to the HBHS”

In November, the Hopkins Belize Humane Society had free spay/neuter and treatment clinics with vet sisters, Dr. Linda Leavell and Dr. Lisa Kelly. In three days, the two vets performed just over 70 procedures, including spays/neuters, tumor removals, tooth extractions, and other much needed surgeries.  Plus, over 40 exams and treatments. Including house calls done by HBHS representatives, over 130 animals were cared for in the November clinics.

HBHS is a very active organization. Vets from several countries have been to Hopkins to donate their services to Belize. In 2012, HBHS will have their busiest year of free vet clinics ever, hosting several new teams to the area, and many returning to Belize for second, third, and even fourth visits!

Hamanasi is proud to be a big supporter of HBHS! Through donating room and board, tours, jewelry sales, vehicle maintenance, and many other behind the scene assistance, Hamanasi is able to provide support for the people and animals of Hopkins, and surrounding villages. We invite our guests to bring donations for HBHS when you come to visit Hopkins, or make a donation while you are here to directly benefit HBHS.

“Backpack Project – Another wonderful success”

Hamanasi Backpack Project Continues… Thanks to all our guest that made a contribution whether big or small towards our Pack Back Project. More than seven dozen of back packs filled with school supplies were distributed to the less fortunate children of the Hopkins Holy Family Primary School.

From kinder to eight grade, the students that received a backpack were very happy and thankful for these thoughtful gifts.  A helpful hand goes a long way in a child’s learning and education!

Thank again to all the loving contributors who helped this project to be a success!

“Happy Garifuna Settlement Day”

Today November 19th we celebrate Garifuna Settlement day. This day was founded as early as 1941 by Thomas Vincent Ramos and the first Garinagu settlers arrived the village of Hopkins in 1845.  After 166 years, the people of Hopkins still live the Garifuna culture and tradition to the fullest.

Garifuna Settlement day  is celebrated throughout Belize and  re-tells the story of hardship, freedom and a new beginning for the first Garinagu settlers in Belize. The Garifuna Culture adds a very unique blend of African & Caribbean flavors to our beautiful country.  Today we thank them for everything from the flavors and delicious food dishes to the contagious fast beat drumming which is a very addictive rhythm.

“Medical donation to the Hopkins community”

A big THANK YOU to Dr. Mark Kimmins for his medical supplies donation to the Hopkins Clinic.  On March 2011, Dr. Mark Kimmins and his father Hamish from Anchorage, Alaska  stayed with us here at Hamanasi for a week.  By faith,  he came across the same path with Dr. Ojo on one of his relaxing afternoon.  Dr. Ojo a general practitioner was born in Nigeria and has been in the country of Belize for the past thirteen years.  He recently was transferred to Hopkins where he is incharge of the clinic and assists everyone from the village that seek medical attention.  Mark told Dr. Ojo that he would like to donate some medical supplies for the Hopkins clinic and he would like to know what exactly are the items that are mostly needed.  Aside from the daily usage of items like syringes, gloves, Dr. Ojo mention a pulse-odometer and a couple stethoscopes wo0uld be greatly appreciated.

On July, we received the medical supplies and Dr. Ojo was so grateful for this donation. Thanks again to Dr. Mark Kimmins and all our guests that continously support our Hopkins community.
