From a pack of pencils, story books, crayons up to school bags, all these donations were given to the needed school children from Hopkins, Maya Center and Silk Grass which brought big smiles to their faces.
While we were closed in September for yearly renovations, Dive Master Shawn Lozano better known as “C-Dog” took time out of his vacation to go to Honduras and attend the PADI Instructor Development Course with Utila Divers. The course is run by Andy Phillips and it took two weeks to complete. It entailed long days of class and water works culminating in a two day exam which he sailed thru. C-Dog has now join the ranks of PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and he is very enthusiastic for this coming season as a Hamanasi Instructor. He is looking forward to creating fantastic new divers and impart his knowledge of the marine environment with his new students. Hamanasi is very proud of his efforts and wishes him the best of luck!
Below is a selection of comments from guests at Hamanasi this September. From the Hamanasi staff to all of our guests this past month, Thank you for coming. We hope you had a great time, and we can’t wait to have you back!

“Don’t grow too much and too fast to lose that venture one on one service attitude, that personal by name friendship your staff builds is perfect. We’ve spend many vacations in the tropics over the years and I wish we’d have found Hamanasi sooner.”
David & Pam Metzger, Amherst, OH
“What a welcome change to stay with a family who cares so much about leaving as little negative impact as possible.”

“Beautification Project in Hopkins Village for National Service Day”
To commemorate the life, work, dedication and service of late Hon George Cadle Price, the Hamanasi Green Team (HGT) was involved in a beautification project at Holy Family RC School in Hopkins Village on September 19, 2012.
In reference, the Right Honorable George Cadle Price, was born on January 15, 1919 at the Price Family Home at number 3 Pickstock Street in Belize City which was to remain his home until his death on 19 September 2011 – three day’s short of the 30th Anniversary of Belize’s Independence – his crowning achievement. Mr. Price is one of the founders of the People’s United Party and the architect of the country’s independence, and is referred to as the Father of the Nation (Dr. John Waight, George Price Eulogy).
Before noon, the HGT planted over 225 plants which included 177 coconuts, 6 palms, 6 Hamans and 36 crotons around the library, old school ground, park and Holly Family School. The zealous, determined, nature loving and community centered team was able to attain success with the assistance of the principal, students and volunteers from the village, including the village chairman.
Young Andrew Herring upon arrival discovered a bougainvillea plant next to their beachfront room broke a branch, placed in a cup with water and decided that he will let his plant grow. He kept it in water for its roots to grow as he was determined to ensure that his plant did not die. On his departure we offered him to go and replant in our greenhouse which he was excited to do.
Mr. Desmond, one of our gardeners assisted Andrew in accomplishing his goal. It was a pleasure to have had Mr. Clarke Herring and family with us and we are all very proud of Andrew, that at his young age he is already thinking how to nurture a living organism. Our promise to Andrew is to ensure that his plant gets all the nutrients and water it needs to grow and keep him updated with his plant growth!

Your Hamanasi family sincerely thank you for choosing us as your vacation destination and took time to write and share your Hamanasi experience with the world.
Sr. Don Lopez is part of the Hamanasi family and has been diving with us for the past 6 years. He was here with us in June 2011 and stayed at All Seasons Guest house for over a month and he dove with us every day. He would not miss out a chance to go diving for anything in this world.
On his last visit he brought some softball sport equipment and donated it to the Hopkins softball team and surely took some time off to give the girls from the team some few helpful tips. Lopez charisma and good sense of humor always brings a smile to your face and the people of Hopkins have come to love him and do look forward to his yearly visits.
Happy Father’s Day

John McConnell, founder of International Earth Day stated, “Let every individual and institution now think and act as responsible trustees of Earth, seeking choices in ecology, economics and ethics that will provide a sustainable future, eliminate pollution, poverty and violence, awaken the wonder of life and foster peaceful progress in the human adventure.” Consider:
¨ Nearly 90 % of plastic bottles go un-recycled and end up in the sea.
¨ Plastics are purely synthetic. They are not found in nature.
¨ Avid recyclers can still go greener by giving up plastic bottles entirely.
In its quest to be ever more sustainable, Hamanasi is starting the month of April 2011 on a greener foot. Each Hamanasi guest will be given a refillable stainless steel water bottle to use during his stay and take home as a souvenir. Throughout the resort, in every room and on tours purified water is available to refill water bottles. Please be sure to bring your bottle with you on tours!
We hope you will enjoy using your Hamanasi water bottle while in Belize and at home. All of us at Hamansi– including you! — are working together for a better, eco-friendly environment!
One of the most popular inventors of the United States, and a frequent guest of Hamanasi Adventure and Dive Resort; Eric Knight visited the Holy Family school in Hopkins on February 1st, 2011 to talk about inventions with the students of Standard XI.
Mr. Knight displayed a variety of his inventions. He also talked with the students about rockets, as well as his latest book: The New Race to Space.
“The students were amazing,” Mr. Knight said. “They were quite knowledgeable about scientific breakthroughs around the world. We even talked about high-speed trains, electric cars, even a newly developed flying car. We also discussed the Space Shuttle and the future of space travel.”
Mr. Knight continued, “These mostly 12-year-old students were talented and engaging. It’s clear that many of the leaders of Belize tomorrow are right here in Hopkins today.”
Hamanasi would like to thank Eric and his wife Elsie for taking time out of their vacation to share their passion for inventions with our children. We look forward to hearing all updates on their new inventions and having them back with us again in 2012.
