Hamanasi Adventure & Dive Resort in Belize is a proud member of pack for a purpose.

Principal Cheryl Molina from Sittee River Methodist School receives 50 lbs of school supplies donated on April 17, 2017.

2017 is the year of Sustainable Tourism.  Hamanasi believes in responsible, sustainable tourism that ensures that local people and communities benefit from tourism in their areas, while providing vacation experiences of a lifetime to our guests. One way Hamanasi enables guests to give back to our local communities is by partnering with the organization Pack for a Purpose. Pack for a Purpose is an initiative that allows travelers to make a lasting impact in the community at their travel destination. By saving just a few pounds of space in their suitcases and taking supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, Hamanasi guests have made a priceless impact in the lives of our local children and families.

Hamanasi has two main projects.  The first helps the Holy Family School in Hopkins Village that serves 400 children from ages 3 through 12 years old. We also help schools in neighboring communities. Hamanasi and our guests have donated many school supplies ranging from backpacks and pencils to maps and Band-Aids. (Click here for a full list of needed items.) These items not only help needy children, but also the schools’ supplies. This year we donated a total of 801 pounds of school materials to the Hopkins Holy Family School and the Sittee River  Methodist School, as well as some kids through our Back to School festival. Additionally, we donated 145 pounds of reading books the Sittee River Methodist school and the St. Jude Roman Catholic School in Maya Center.

Our second project with Pack for a Purpose is with the Hopkins Belize Humane Society (HBHS), an organization committed to the care and welfare of animals and people in Hopkins Village and throughout Belize. Several times a year, free spay/neuter and treatment clinics are coordinated through U.S. and Belizean volunteers. HBHS has many needs (for a complete list click here), from ace bandages and needles to forceps and syringes. Even old towels and bed linens are welcome.   Our guests are encouraged to arrange a visit to the clinic, which is within walking distance from Hamanasi. This year to date we have donated nearly 100 pounds of supplies to HBHS and housed free of charge many of their visiting volunteers.

Hamanasi, HBHS and our area schools THANK YOU, our guests, who have generously contributed items for Pack for a Purpose. Together, we are making lives – whether human or furry – better in Belize!
