Bandit 1
The day Bandit was found in the trash

Recently, Hamanasi’s General Manager, Kirsty Roberts has had a tiny, four-legged, tail-wagging shadow following her around the resort grounds. The puppy, named Bandit, came to Kirsty and her husband Launce from the Hopkins Belize Humane Society (HBHS). Bandit was found in a dumpster in Punta Gorda, and he was in the care of the Humane Society for a few weeks before coming to Hamanasi.

Hamanasi’s relationship with HBHS goes far beyond them fostering Bandit. As part of the Pack for a Purpose program, Hamanasi guests have been bringing supplies for HBHS for several years. Several veterinarians who have come to serve at HBHS have been hosted for free by Hamanasi, even participating in adventures as time allowed!

The staff and volunteers at HBHS serve the community by providing free spays, neuters and checkups.  They also provide education and a free weekly supply of dog food to those who bring their dogs to the clinic for check-ups.

The positive impact of the work of the Hopkins Humane Society can be seen in the health of dogs all around the villages of Hopkins and Sittee River.

On your next visit, be sure to stop by HBHS, located just south of the resort. Bandit and his friends would like to give you a two paws up for your role in making their community a better place.
