On November 2, 2016 Durke Francisco, a local from Hopkins village along with students of The University of Central Florida held the first Hopkins Holy Family School Eco Club meeting for the school year 2016 – 2017.   The students from The University of Central Florida, Citizen Science GIS Team where the special guests and the main speaker was PHD student Mrs Lain Graham with her deliverance theme to the students being ” The importance of identifying types and how to collect beach debris data”.

Citizen Science GIS Team donated 3 Samsung tablets to The Eco Club  to collect beach debris data.  This data will then be updated onto the Citizen Science GIS website. This information will be accessible to our community leaders in an effort to assist in identifying areas where garbage bins are needed.

The Eco Club members were taught how to use a GPS with the tablet, and how to collect and input the beach debris data.

A heartfelt thank you to PhD student Mrs. Lain Graham and her team from Citizen Science GIS.
