Earth Month Roots: Growing Green Legacy in Hopkins Village

Tree planting

For Earth Month, Hamanasi is reflecting on its ongoing tree planting initiatives in Hopkins Village and reaffirming its commitment to expanding these efforts in partnership with the local community. Rooted in the belief that healthy ecosystems and thriving communities go hand in hand, these efforts have become a cornerstone of the resort’s regenerative approach to tourism.

One of the most meaningful examples of this work is the tree planting at Holy Family Primary School, where Hamanasi staff, community members, and local students came together to plant trees that symbolize the resort’s long-standing presence in Southern Belize.

In addition, Hamanasi supported the creation of a green space at the Hopkins Catholic Church, transforming the area into a more vibrant and welcoming environment for the community. This project not only enhances the aesthetic and ecological value of the space but also provides a place for gathering, reflection, and connection.

These efforts are especially significant in a coastal community like Hopkins, where trees help stabilize shorelines, reduce erosion, filter groundwater, and protect the nearby Belize Barrier Reef from sediment runoff.

Equally important is the social impact. Tree planting activities often serve as hands-on educational experiences for local youth, fostering environmental awareness and a sense of stewardship for the land.

As Earth month closes, Hamanasi is taking this opportunity to reflect on these achievements while also looking ahead, committing to continue and expand similar initiatives in collaboration with local communities. If you would like to participate, ask about our Adopt a Tree program!
