At Hamanasi, caring for wildlife is a vital part of our commitment to being a fully regenerative resort. Surrounded by Belize’s rich biodiversity, we work to actively create a safe, natural environment where wildlife can thrive right alongside responsible tourism.
Because we intentionally built our resort within nature, we are able to celebrate wildlife across a variety of unique habitats:

Offshore & Shoreline: In the Caribbean Sea, we protect the seagrass meadow—a crucial hiding ground for juvenile marine species and a buffet for passing manatees. On the beach, you might spot sandpipers darting through incoming waves as they feed in the soft sand.

The Coastal Forest: Further onshore, our lush property features fruiting trees like seagrapes, cashews, craboos, and cocoplums. These provide vital habitat and food for incredible creatures, including agoutis, coatimundis, kinkajous, and a variety of tropical birds like Aracari toucans and black-headed trogons.

The Forest Floor & Pond: The natural leaf litter on the forest floor creates an ideal home for turtles, snakes, and iguanas, while our enhanced pond provides a wonderful habitat for migrating crocodiles, fish, and beautiful wading birds.

The 25-acre Nature Reserve: Across the road, Hamanasi’s reserve abuts the natural savannah. This is an extended undisturbed area for wildlife, both terrestrial and arboreal.
We are continuously working to increase our wildlife-friendly infrastructure through reforestation, natural landscaping, preserving green corridors, and maintaining arboreal bridges to reduce disturbances to the local ecosystems. Taken together, Hamanasi provides a rich, thriving habitat where Belize’s wildlife is truly celebrated. Keep your eyes peeled on your next visit—you never know who you might meet on the path to your room!
