Michelle and Kevin Mehring arrived at Hamanasi bringing with them one extra piece of luggage. The contents in it were bound to make some school kids and teachers of the local school in Hopkins a little more enthusiastic. Michelle and Kevin’s extra suitcase contained goodies, of the educational kind, which the Holy Family Primary School would be receiving. In it were various types of much needed and appreciated school supplies, board games and books.

As a proud member of Pack for Purpose, Hamanasi regularly encourages guests to contribute by chipping in with a few supplies that will be well used by the local schools. Since joining this cause guest participation has been active and steady and we thread the wheels of hope in keeping it that way.

Michelle and Kevin decided to take the donation one step further though, as they elected to deliver the items personally and take the opportunity to visit the school and meet some of the school kids.

Upon reaching the school they were greeted by the school’s principal, Ms. Barbara Nunez, who graciously received the traveling suitcase and gave them a brief history of the school. This is the ONLY school in the village and goes up to grade 8th grade, after which, students then have to travel to Dangriga to receive further education.

When touring the school grounds Michelle and Kevin visited different class levels, from kindergarten to 8th grade. The kids welcomed the slight interruption to the day’s lesson with some classrooms bolstering a chorus-like welcome, “Good afternoon and welcome visitors!”

Hamanasi would like to thank fondly all those guests who have answered the call of our Pack for Purpose plea. We welcome anyone who, like Michelle and Kevin, opts to visit the school and see firsthand how contributions are being used.  The simplest acts can make a huge difference!
