Belize is a hot place, not just because we are 17 degrees north of the equator, but because we love spice!  A bottle of hot sauce or ‘peppa sauce’ is found on every table of every household and restaurant throughout the country.

Hamanasi’s homemade pepper sauce is made with fresh ingredients from our certified organic farm or locally sourced.  Guests frequently fall in love with the smoky flavor and touch of heat that comes with this pepper sauce.  Prior to departing Hamanasi you can purchase this pepper sauce to take home, but what happens when you run out?!  You have two solutions: come back for another visit to refill your pepper sauce or try making a batch from your very own kitchen!

Ingredients

  • 2 whole carrots, chopped
  • 6 habanero peppers, seeded
  • 4 large tomatoes, chopped
  • 5 medium onions, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • ¼ cup cilantro
  • ½ cup vinegar
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Place the carrots, peppers, tomato, onions and garlic on a baking tray. Lightly oil and roast in the oven at 350 F degrees for about 20 minutes until soft. Set aside and allow to cool.
  2. Put roasted items into a blender along with the vinegar and cilantro. Blend until smooth and season to taste
  3. Pour sauce into a clean, sterilized jar or bottle. Store for up to two weeks in the refrigerator.
