Hamanasi believes in responsible, natural and cultural based eco-tourism. Our goal is to regenerate our environment and have a positive impact on our community while delivering to our guests the vacation of a lifetime. We wish to improve vs. merely sustain. Since we opened in 2000, Hamanasi has worked to incorporate this philosophy into all aspects of our operations. This is has been a collaborative journey with celebrations and milestones, some of which you can see below.

In 1995, David and Dana Krauskopf acquired empty coastal land in Hopkins, Belize and began planning what would come to be Hamanasi.
Hamanasi opened on October 18th, 2000. This birthday is celebrated every year by staff, some of whom have been with us for all 25 years!
Our second Beachfront building opened with our first suites.
Hamanasi adds our first treehouses, nestled amongst the trees of our coastal forest. 
The couples' wedding arch survived the hurricane the next day in tact. A good omen!
Cat. 4 Hurricane Iris hits Southern Belize. Later that year Hamanasi adopted it
s first resort pet, a cat named Iris.
Hamanasi starts an education fund to support local youth.
A new Adventure Center is built after the previous one was destroyed by fire.
The Green Team actively supports education on property and in the community.
Hamanasi's deluxe treehouse rooms are an immediate hit and will go on to become our most popular room type.
Hamanasi has over 3000 5-star reviews on Tripadvisor, and was ranked in the top 25 hotels in the world of Tripadvisor's first 25 years. But it all started with the first 5-star review in 2005.


Hamanasi's organic garden takes food scraps from our restaurant and uses it to grow farm to table produce and ingredients for future meals.


Hamanasi becomes Belize's first beachfront property to achieve Green Globe certification.

This ongoing partnership allows guests to bring supplies that support local schools and the Southern Belize Humane Society.

Hamanasi ranked top 15 in Central America
Second story added to Great House for the Singanga Restaurant and library.


Hamanasi acquired 4 acres of adjacent denuded property for the future home of our newest deluxe treehouse rooms. After reforestation it's difficult to tell where the original coastal forest stops and the reforested land begins.

Inspired by a guest suggestion Hamanasi replaced all plastic straws on property with locally made bamboo straws.

This program has expanded to included free monthly health clinics for employees, mental health support, nutrition programs and sporting competitions.




The boardwalk allows easy observation of the pond and its many resident species.



Hamanasi awarded one of Tripadvisor's 25 top hotels of the last 25 years.
