Into the Heart of the Rainforest: Exploring Cockscomb Basin

Cockscomb Basin

Step beyond our golden beaches and discover another spectacular side of Belize at the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary — the world’s first dedicated jaguar preserve. Just a short journey from Hamanasi, this lush tropical rainforest is a magical sanctuary where cascading waterfalls, rich biodiversity, and unforgettable walking adventures seamlessly come together.

Your day of discovery begins at the gateway to the reserve in the charming village of Maya Center, where local indigenous artisans proudly showcase their beautiful, handmade cultural crafts. Supporting these artisans is a core part of our regenerative mission to celebrate diverse cultures and positively impact our local communities.

From there, you will venture deep under the emerald jungle canopy with one of our expert, licensed Belizean guides. Together, you will explore scenic hiking trails, cool off with a refreshing plunge beneath a cascading waterfall, and learn about the fascinating plants and animals that call this protected wilderness home.  As you walk, listen closely for the deep, resonant calls of howler monkeys, watch the canopy for the brilliant colors of toucans and parrots, and keep an eye on the trail for the fresh tracks of the elusive jaguar.

Whether you are chasing breathtaking vistas, seeking unique wildlife encounters, or looking to experience the wild, untouched heart of Belize, the Cockscomb adventure is an experience that will stay with you forever.
