Since opening its doors in 2019, Wine Smith Limited—a proud family-owned boutique in San Ignacio town has been bringing world-class California wines home to Belize. The shop proudly features over 15 varieties crafted by Belize’s own Joseph “Flinkas” Smith, whose award-winning creations have graced the pages of Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.
Born and raised in San Ignacio in a family of 13 siblings, Joseph migrated to California in 1996 and rose quickly in the wine world. By 2005, he became Head Winemaker at Jewel Winery, and soon after joined Klinker Brick Winery, where his talent flourished. His wines have earned numerous 90+ point ratings, including Wine Spectator Top 100 honors. This is a historic milestone for the Lodi region.
Joseph has since led winemaking for renowned wineries, launched his own Concrete & Sip label, and expanded national distribution to over 40 U.S. states. His latest venture, JSL Wines, celebrates Belizean pride with elegant offerings such as Lorraine Chardonnay, Saignée Rosé, and the exciting raspberry-infused sparkling wine Être Vu, created with Stig Da Artist.
Today, Wine Smith continues to elevate Belize’s wine culture, sharing Joseph’s passion, craftsmanship, and Belizean heritage one bottle at a time. You can enjoy these wines in Hamanasi’s Singanga restaurant and bar.
