Hamanasi adds Deluxe Treehouse!
Tucked into its coastal littoral forest is Hamanasi’s newest unit, the Deluxe Treehouse. Named “Black Orchid” after the Belizean national flower which graces the paths, the Deluxe Treehouse enjoys a spacious living room in cool tropical tones furnished with handcrafted Belizean furniture and local art. Adjoining is a large, charming kitchenette with a dining table, stocked mini bar, coffee maker and bottled water. Bold blue tiles adorn the commodious bathroom, which boasts double vanities, plenty of storage space and his and her robes. Guests enjoy views of the tropical vegetation through the expansive window in the huge shower/tub with twin showerheads. |
Beach clean-up!
On Saturday, March 31, 2007, Hamanasi organized a Hopkins Village beach cleanup. Young boys and girls of the Holy Family School and Hopkins Police Cadets worked with team leaders from Hamanasi on this PADI Project Aware effort. Hamanasi provided trash bags, transportation and lunch, while the kids brought their own rakes and shovels. Hamanasi's Security Supervisor, Walton "Boots" Rodriguez who lead this effort said, "We wanted to teach the children the importance of keeping our beaches clean. The project was timely as the village was clean for the Holy Family School's Easter fair." THANK YOU, EVERYONE, for your hard work! |

New Bird on Property!
Yellow Throated Euphonia
This elusive little guy, the Yellow Throated Euphonia was just recently spotted on property for the first time. This shot was taken by our guest, Sarah Manningsmith who was here in March, 2006.
Now that he has been spotted, our jungle guides Pedro and Golden say they have seen several Euphonias on property recenlty! Over 40 species of birds inhabit hamanasi's coastal forest including: tanagers, flycatchers, trogans, warblers, oriols, parakeets, chachalakas, seed eaters and more. |

Back to School Backpack Project
Our “Back to School Project” was a HUGE success! Through our website’s “What to Bring” list, we asked guests to donate new and used backpacks and school supplies for children in Hopkins and the surrounding areas. Your response was tremendous! We received almost 400 backpacks and box after box of school supplies. The children were THRILLED! Thank you to everyone that contributed to this heart-warming project!

Even a broken neck could not stop Caree Shuman from fulfilling a life long dream of becoming a scuba diver. As a child she read about Jacques Cousteau and knew that one day she would like to do what he was famous for – explore the underwater world. Four years ago Caree was injured while free diving from a pier. A long journey through hospitals and rehab brought her to Hamanasi and on December 7th she was certified as a PADI Open Water Diver. Watching Caree make summersaults under water and hovering effortless in the current and sharing her dream was an inspiration to our dive team. Well done Caree. |

David Winchell - Hamanasi Birder writes:
"One of the many things I enjoyed during our stay in early October was the amount of bird life I saw at Hamanasi and on the excursions. I added 48 news species to my life list. The bird list that was provided in your information package was very helpful."
Seven of these birds were spotted on Hamanasi property!
Thank you David! |

Dive sightings Summer 2007
From manatees to whale sharks to eagle rays, it's been a great season for marine sightings! Whale shark sightings were outstanding this year. Every full moon during those months we saw sharks on almost every whale shark dive -- 8 on one dive alone! Even while divers were on the surface, the sharks were feeding all around leaving divers to try and get out of their way… Now that is close! And during one whale shark dive, a pod of dolphins joined in the underwater fun! |
